Mobile data correlation with traffic volumes

In this case study you will learn how
IDCJ and NIT applied mobile location data to urban transport planning, compared findings with conventional transport surveys, and explored how mobility data could complement existing approaches to infrastructure planning.
Rapid urban growth, emerging traffic problems, and the high cost of conventional transport surveys make it difficult for developing countries to maintain reliable, up to date transport planning data. IDCJ and NIT used Quadrant’s mobile location data alongside JICA Person Trip surveys, traffic volume surveys, and OpenStreetMap building data to investigate transport patterns in Laos.
Download this case study to explore how mobile location data was applied to origin and destination analysis, trip purpose identification, and traffic volume comparison, including a correlation of approximately 0.8 between mobile device counts and observed passenger volumes. The study also highlights the potential and limitations of using mobility data alongside conventional transport surveys.

COO, Moving WallsQuadrant's coverage of location data across Canada is thorough. Especially the availability of data for rural Canada, which is very difficult to find. We have seen some great results in assessing campaign performance and ROI attribution for our retail customers across the country. We are really happy with our partnership and continue to work with Quadrant to bring more value and actionable location-based insights to our customers.

CEO, Applied PostBy starting with metro-scale mobile location data from Quadrant, Place Intelligence was able to develop a city-wide demand model for vehicle movements between major destination centres. This created valuable insights into when and how transport infrastructure was used and the relative demand profiles of each activity centre.
John Draper
Director of Data Analytics, Place IntelligenceWhen we created our company, the goal was to look at transit analysis a different way. We wanted to make sure that we could help our clients modernize their services using big data and custom-built tools. We selected Quadrant after an exhaustive search based on their ability to provide real, meaningful data, that respected the privacy of the users.
