Location Data Evaluation: Best Practices for Selecting a Vendor

Companies in the location data industry like to highlight the numerous uses and benefits of their data. However, the topic of how to select a data vendor remains largely undiscussed. As the old adage goes, ‘garbage in, garbage out’: low quality data leads to unsubstantiated, weak insights, and ultimately to wrong decisions. To ensure that the data you acquire helps you solve your business challenges, you need to evaluate data quality.

Scaling OOH Advertising with Mobile Location Data - Customer Success Story

Experts forecast that Out-of-home (OOH) advertising will be a $33 billion industry by 2021. Despite the increasing popularity of digital advertising, OOH ads remain the most effective method of context-based advertising that improves brand visibility, drives customers to your business' location, and effectively delivers relevant messages in public interest.

Once considered overtaken by internet-based advertising and social media, OOH advertising has made a comeback in the past few years. This comeback has been made possible by the analysis of location data - collected from personal devices that are literally everywhere! Mobile location data provides actionable insight into where people are, and OOH media providers can harness this data to deliver relevant messages to their customers at the right time.

One of our customers, Moving Walls, takes OOH media automation and targeting to the next level. Their location intelligence platform Moving Audiences helps advertisers with advanced data capabilities that address OOH's unique characteristics and various formats. Moving Walls enables brands to reach their audience more efficiently, and Quadrant helps them acquire new datasets to expand to new regions. Moving Walls has partnered with Quadrant for up to date location data that powers Moving Walls' location intelligence platform. Which in turn caters to every digital, static, indoor, or outdoor media type across the world.

Statement on the claimed privacy issues around Muslim Pro and X-Mode

In the last few days, some media outlets have reported that data of the users of Muslim Pro, a popular mobile app, might have been sold to the United States military through X-Mode, a location data company. These articles might have been interpreted in a way suggesting that Quadrant had business relationship with X-Mode or Sierra Nevada, another company mentioned in some of the reports.

We want to clarify that Quadrant has never purchased or sold data from or to X-Mode or Sierra Nevada.

Until November 19, X-Mode and Sierra Nevada were listed on Quadrant’s Trusted Partners page. The “Trusted Partners page” is a standard practice in the location data industry. It is a catalogue of companies based on the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) Transparency & Consent Framework Vendors List, often with a few additions like non-IAB certified, but significant industry players. It is not a list of Quadrant’s clients or suppliers. We have removed both companies from our Trusted Partners page for clarity.

Muslim Pro’s privacy policy previously mentioned Quadrant as we had a business relationship with Bitsmedia, independently of X-Mode or any other company. During this relationship, we handled user data respecting the letter and spirit of all applicable data privacy regulations, including PDPA and GDPR. At Quadrant we believe in the power of location data and the benefits it can bring to society. We continue to work on technologies that will bring better transparency, consent and trust to the industry.

GDPR Consent Conditions: Best Practices for Establishing Compliance

Data monetisation has grown manifolds in the past decade. It has helped businesses flourish and allowed consumers to enjoy tailored experiences. However, the unregulated use of data and the infringement on individuals’ privacy rights triggered a backlash, and regulators are now introducing strict consent requirements. In this article, we take a look at the best practices that can help you stay compliant.

The most important of these new laws is the European Union’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as many other jurisdictions use it as a blueprint. GDPR empowers users to govern how businesses can use their data, and it significantly raised the bar for data privacy laws worldwide. Penalties are harsh and enforcement is firm, so businesses are now setting up dedicated mechanisms to establish compliance.

Download our latest eBook to learn what is consent management, why it is important and how you can establish compliance with the stringent consent requirements mandated by today's data privacy laws.
